My Dear Son
I recd. your Letter by Mr Roberts
and we are sorry to hear of your [Indisposition]
but hope by this you have quite recovered
I have failed in my Election owing to the
sickly season, and an [underhanded]. dirty
Opposition. but I have the Comfort to know
that all the respectable [Voters]. were for
me -- upon the whole I am glad I
am not Elected if there had been no
unfair means used - and so private were
they in it that. none of my friends even
heard of it untill late on Thursday
the principicals were Erskine. Tom Coward
[Nic.] Kellum + Tom Martin. [Jack]
Thomas -- I have now done with Elections
and I wish I had not Offered. for some
[years--]

[passed] -- I shall perhaps call at Annaps.
on my way to Baltimore next week
at any [rate] we shall be over at the
[races] if we should be all well James
is very sick today and has been so
this [two] day, I hope Mr Goldsmith will
get the money from [these?] people -- Mr. [Magurth?]
goes again for the Vacancy -- he left my
letter the last time, I suppose he told
you -- we hear [Risdon] Harwood has
drowned himself -- Old Robrt Lamden
is dead some time ago -- no news of
any Consequence here -- I am yout Afft
